The Gathering Post is one of the buildings you can build early on in Frostpunk, and it can be useful in helping you gather resources. Gathering Posts are worth it I’m sure I’m not the only one to not bother with gathering posts in my first few playthroughs of Frostpunk. The benefits are multitude! Very handy to construct if you got 2-3 piles of resources nearby but do not have the manpower for all the piles. Food: with 160 people I only upgraded to hunters hangars around day 20 or so. To conduct any sort of research in Frostpunk you need to construct a Workshop, getting one up as early as you can is extremely recommended since you can increase your peoples abilities at gathering, unlocking new buildings and upgrades to help you tackle the cold. Why bother spending time and effort building this cruddy building with limited radius when you can gather all the resources around you immediately and for free? Upgrade all your gathering, gathering post insulation 2 may not be needed. Since research is so important, freeing them up from gathering for research even on day one should be well worth 5 steel. Of course Gathering Post need resources, but the speed of recovery of the cost will cover it's cost within the first 5 hours of operating. To get 1.3 steel directly from the pile you need 5 workers.
